About Us : Services : Clients : Staff : Publications and Awards : Contact Us : Job Opportunities STAFF/BIOS Joyce Yokomizo Principal Joyce Yokomizo has over 25 years of professional design experience on major international and domestic projects. Her work has been widely published in the design press, including Interiors magazine, Architectural Record, as well as Architecture, Restaurant Hospitality, and Designer's West magazines. She has been a guest lecturer and instructor at many recognized universities, including Stanford University and University of California at Berkeley. She currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Interior Design Extension program at the University of California. She received a degree in Interior Design, with honors, from San Jose State University after studying architecture at the University of California at Berkeley. Joyce Yokomizo opened her practice, Yokomizo Associates, in 1986. Since then, she has applied her talent, knowledge, and design sensitivity to a wide range of corporate, public, hospitality, medical, retail, and residential projects throughout California and nationally. Her ability to interpret each projects' unique requirements, and create a rich product utilizing timeless design is her unique strength. Management experience prior to managing Yokomizo Associates includes Director of Interior Design for CRS Sirrine in San Francisco (a 3200 person, international design-build firm based in Houston, Texas) and Corporate Vice President in charge of design services for Western Design Associates. In all, Ms. Yokomizo has been responsible for several million square feet of interiors designed in the U.S. and abroad. For the past several years, Joyce has served as president and board member of the Buddhist Church of Oakland which serves a large senior and youth population in Oakland. In addition, for the past 15 years she has been a volunteer for JASEB, an East Bay organization that provides housing, healthcare, social, and educational activities for seniors. She also volunteers for MOCHA, the Museum of Children's Art in Oakland, assisting with community children's art programs. She is a resident of Piedmont, CA.
Laura Eichel Laura has been a Senior Designer with Yokomizo Associates for 4 years. and has been involved in design and project management for a wide range of commercial, hospitality, public, and residential projects. Prior to joining the team at Yokomizo Associates, Laura has worked for over 8 years in the interior design industry. In addition to her broad experience with commercial, public, and residential projects, she brings to the group experience with exhibit, museum, and multimedia design. She has worked with high profile clients such as the Smithsonian Institution, LucasFilm, the National Park Service, California State Parks, and the Japan Travel Bureau. All projects have involved comprehensive interior, exhibit, and interpretive design for the clients involved. Her education includes a B.S. in Interior Design at Cornell University, and extended studies in Multimedia Design at San Francisco State University. She has recently served as Committee Chair for the Organization of Women Architects and Design Professionals. She has also served for several years on the Program Development Committee for the Youth Empowerment Program in San Francisco. She is a resident of Oakland, CA.
